About the Jamie Carragher Academy
The Jamie Carragher Academy offers a unique and exciting opportunity for school-leavers in the North West, to study for BTEC Level 2 & Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, as well as FA level 1 & 2, referee badge, and English and Maths.
This vocational course is aimed at 16-19 year olds who wish to combine progression in football, either playing or coaching, with the dynamic area of physical education, sports coaching and sports development. Mixed with daily training and opportunities to play at various levels of semi-professional football, this course will look at many aspects of the game.
The Jamie Carragher Academy believe in developing players and coaches both tactically and technically, but most importantly developing the individual to become a better person.
At the Jamie Carragher Academy we base our coaching philosophy more on the social & psychological side of things, so our coaches are mentally prepared for all challenges that life throws at them.
Designed for students who wish to develop a comprehensive overview of the sports industry, with a specific focus on football and football coaching, the course encourages the development of playing skills, whilst also providing a good foundation in training, tactical and coaching techniques.
‘You can only be the best when you learn from the best’
All of the BTEC courses are run by Virtual Learning UK and they provide expert tutors.
All staff are fully qualified and have been DBS checked. The Academy is inspected regularly by OFSTED.
Jamie Carragher Academy Team
Jamie Carragher Academy offer coaching and playing opportunities for the Academy team. If you are aged 16 – 18 you could get involved.
The students will self-analyse individual and team performances on replay analysis as part of the Coaching and individual learning objectives given to each player to show progression through the season. You will train like a full time footballer, play against other colleges and academies all while achieving your FA level1 & 2 and BTEC Sports qualification.
This is a great opportunity for students who want to experience what it is like to be a full-time football player studying and playing hard.
Why the Brunswick Youth and Community Centre is involved with the Jamie Carragher Sports and Learning Academy
Education and personal development is at the heart of everything we do here at The Brunny. Partnering with Jamie Carragher Academy means that, as a registered charity, we can deliver on our aims, through our Education, Training, and Employment programme, which are to provide “the youth of Bootle and Sefton area with educational and leisure facilities to help them grow to full maturity as members of society.”
The partnership makes sense from both sides as we have unmatched facilities for the Academy, including:
- a state-of-the-art “3G” indoor football pitch. This synthetic pitch is common in Europe and becoming increasingly popular in the UK, with 1121 pitches registered with the FA for the 2019-2020 season. Training (and being trained) on this type of pitch means that the Academy’s students are better prepared;
- flexible space for classrooms with integrated I.T. equipment;
- recreational facilities, such as pool and table tennis equipment, outdoor areas, etc.; and
- a full-time, friendly, and committed staff at The Brunny, dedicated to helping young people with education and development.
Jamie Carragher and Brunswick Youth and Community Centre
Perhaps the main reason for our tie-in with the Jamie Carragher Academy is our life-long connection with its founder, Jamie Carragher.
Jamie grew up in a house on Knowsley Road, Bootle, a short walk from The Brunny, and went to school across the road at St. James’ Primary (now All Saints Catholic Primary School).
As he says in his autobiography, “Carra”,
My second home was the Brunswick Youth Club- the Brunny- where we’d spend every school holiday having a kick-about in the gym in the afternoon and playing pool in the evening.
Jamie, and his dad Philly, have always been loyal supporters of The Brunny. They are both close friends with Centre Manager Keith Lloyd so, when the opportunity arose for Jamie to give back by founding his Academy, using The Brunny for its base was the natural choice.
We are proud to have played a part in Jamie’s past and to contribute to the future of his Academy, its staff, and many graduates.
