About Keith

Keith’s connection with Brunswick Youth and Community Centre goes back to his youth. He regularly came to The Brunny between 11-21 years old. At 18 he started volunteering here, and was trusted with the job of representing the Brunswick nationally at the National Association of Boys Clubs (now known as Ambition).

His role included organising a series of conferences, primarily dealing with unemployment and drug-related issues.

Between 21-24 years old, Keith was self-employed. At 24 he went to work for Sefton MBC as a youth worker, where he stayed for nearly 20 years. During this time he had secondments to Connexions, training providers, and outdoor pursuits organisations right across Sefton.

Keen to expand his knowledge, at 44, Keith studied part-time at Manchester University where he earned a Diploma in Community and Youth Work Studies.

In 2006 his experience came full-circle when Keith returned to The Brunny as Centre Manager, where he has remained ever since.

During this time he has overseen the expansion of the Centre and its services. One thing he is particularly proud of is the community garden and adoption of the approach to Bootle Oriel Road Station.

In both cases, he has used his skills and experience as an organiser, negotiator, and motivator to persuade various groups and people to get behind his vision. The results in both cases are that areas of previously derelict and/or neglected land have been transformed into valuable community resources which benefit members of Brunswick Youth and Community Centre and the wider population of Sefton.

Keith leads an enthusiastic team of staff and volunteers who are committed to serving the people of Bootle, Sefton, and beyond. Read more about us here.
